April is shaping up to be a big month for the
Historical Society. Volunteers have been hard at work on the future museum and
we have gotten a lot accomplished. Several windows have been put in on the
main floor. Some of the smaller side rooms on the main floor are being
turned into a genealogy library. We've even ventured upstairs,
cleaning out most of the side rooms & removing the drywall that is
covering our gorgeous arched windows. From what we've seen so far, most of the
windows are in decent shape.
We are also in the process of turning the
two rooms in the smaller building into an office & meeting room.
The electricity has been turned on & we
are working on the plumbing as well as installing replacement windows
& doors in our office area.
Volunteers will be working almost everyday
after 1:00 working on scraping, painting, cleaning, etc. Call Sally Watts at
395-6754 or Vicky Cody at 385-6313 to let them know if you can volunteer or
just show up, even if just for a little while.
Here is our BIG news- We are
planning an Open House on May 17th ! Jack Lee has generously offered to
let us display some of his Macon County historical items on May 17th for
the day. If you have any Macon County historical items that you
would like to share for the day, please call Sally or Vicky.
We are also having success with our
Memory Window project. If you would like to donate $200 for a replacement
window - The Historical Society will place a brass plaque on the
window dedicating the donation of the window to whomever you wish or
courtesy of any club or organization. We already have 8 windows donated
Call Sally if you would like to have a Memory window. Mark your
calendars & please join us on May 17th to hear & see just a bit of the
past come ALIVE as our towns & villages tell their story !
