Historical Society (MCHS) Genealogy Library promotes family history research
by collecting, preserving, and making available to the public genealogical and
historical records of
Macon
County
and the State of
Missouri. The Library is housed in the

provided at the Library. Please call 660-651-0051 for an
appointment to have your family names searched.
General Information
§
Orders for documents must be in
writing, whether by e-mail or via the online Research
Request Form . If you request via e-mail, you will receive a
mailed form. The more information the requester can give about which
records have already been searched and the specific information being
requested, the quicker response the local researcher can give.
§
MCHS does not loan out materials,
nor do they leave the Library room. A photocopier and a computer and
printer are available in the Library.
§
No personal CDs may be used on
the Library’s computer.
§
Searches are restricted to
materials owned by the Library or by the Macon County Courthouse. No
out-of-county searches will be done.
§
Additional fees will be added for
researchers to make trips to in-county cemeteries and for photos of
gravestones.
Photocopies
and Printouts
Researchers may get letter
(8 1/2” x 11”) or legal-sized (11” x 14”) photocopies in black and
white only. Letter-sized copies are 25˘, and legal-sized copies are 50˘
per page. Print-outs from the computer also cost 25˘ per page for
letter size and 50˘ per page for legal size.
To request a search, print
and fill out the Research Request
Form to the fullest extent that you are able. Include your
research fee of $10 for up to one hour’s time for locating and copying from
files, plus a self-addressed stamped envelope.
